On 22nd November 2019, Anna Nicholls joined us as our first ever Community Development Officer. The post is initially for one year and has been funded by grants from the National Lottery Conmmunity Fund Awards for All programme, and the Kent Reliance Provident Community Fund, via the Kent Community Foundation. We are extremely grateful to these two funder for making this possible.
Anna's role will be to spread the work about EKS far and wide across the area, making sure that professionals know that we are here so that they can signpost people to us. She will also be looking to create two new groups, in the Faversham and Folkestone/Dover areas, and to work with our members to find out exactly what they would like EKS to do for them.
Here's a message from Anna herself:
"Hello! My name is Anna Nicholls and I am very pleased to be joining East Kent Strokes as its Community Development Officer.
As a graduate in Speech and Language Therapy I worked for 6 years for the Stroke Association developing its Communication Support Service across East Kent. I ran Communication Support Groups and worked with volunteers. I gained an understanding of how life can change following a stroke and how vital getting the right information and guidance at the right time can be.
I have worked in marketing roles for charities and in the Arts for many years and like nothing better than spreading the word about the positive services charities provide and networking to increase the reach of an organisation.
On a personal note, I have recently taken on an allotment, dabble in a bit of yoga and am an advocate of the positive impact nature can play on our mental health. This summer I ran a series of outdoor activities at Monkton Nature Reserve and have just submitted my Forest School Leader Level 3 Portfolio. This winter I am volunteering for Thanet Winter Shelter as a Befriender/ Greeter, part of the Breakfast Team and a Driver's mate.
I am looking forward to meeting everyone as soon as I can, catching up with some familiar faces perhaps, and taking note of what your hopes are for East Kent Strokes."
